Play Like a Champion to Share Vision with National Advisory Board in Chicago
Updated: Apr 5, 2018
National Advisory Board members and staff from the Play Like a Champion Today Educational Series are headed to the Windy City this weekend for a series of events, presentations and discussions surrounding an exciting vision for the future of Play Like a Champion and youth sports in America.
Many of the activities will take place in the city's near west side, where Play Like a Champion has been collaborating with the North Lawndale community and other local groups to create the North Lawndale Athletic & Recreation Association (NLARA). Along with Old Saint Patrick's Catholic Church and UCAN, Chicago's oldest agency serving ypouth challenged by violence and trauma, Play Like a Champion has worked with community leaders to create a sustainable, grassroots organization that suports sports programming in North Lawndale. The groups will tour facilities and talk with local leaders, coaches and volunteers to learn more about the collaboration and the project's exciting future.
Friday night, April 6th will feature a cocktail party highlighted by a presentation from the student-athletes of DRW High School who this year made a special trip to Washington DC, hosted by the Georgetown Titans Hockey Club (another Play Like a Champion partner). Saturday morning will feature additional presentations before the weekend culminates with a National Advisory Board meeting, where the group will discuss the implications the NLARA has for other urban communities across the country.
The weekend is part of a vision for the future of Play Like a Champion that seeks to continue improving youth and high school programs across North America while assuring that children everywhere have access to participation in youth sports. Be sure to follow www.playlikeachampion.org and our social media accounts for updates on the weekend and more information on the NLARA project and related efforts in the near future.
