Sign up for our Newsletter Support Champions for Children	Sports as Ministry Coach Education Program Sports as Ministry Coach Education Program The Sports as Ministry (SAM) Initiative is an innovative coach education program for Catholic youth sports organizations. The SAM Initiative can be implemented in CYO, parochial athletic leagues, or in individual Catholic schools and parishes. PLC Partners conduct coaches clinics in cities around the country within their sport organizations. Many PLC Partners also offer the Parent Like A Champion Today™ Program to supplement the SAM initiative with parent workshops. These programs were developed using the latest research in child development, sports psychology, and Catholic theology, SAM is the answer to any Catholic sports program wishing to touch the lives of young athletes through the ministry of sport. PLC also offers public school coaches clinics and high schools coaches clinics and parent workshops. Training for PLC Local Certified Trainers To make the program as effective and affordable as possible, PLC operates a train-the-trainer system of presenting coaches clinics and parent workshops. PLC Local Certified Trainers (LCTs) can be trained at the annual PLC Leadership Conference in June or through an on-site, train-the-trainer seminar. Either training will equip representatives with a mastery of the PLC coaching philosophy, the tools to implement a comprehensive "game plan" to elevate the culture of youth sport, a user-friendly Trainer's Manual, PLC coach and parent manuals, and the Play Like a Champion Today™ DVD including power point and video featuring successful coaches from the University of Notre Dame. Click here for more information about how to become a PLC Partner. Sports as Ministry Coaches Clinic Over 90% of the coaches who attend PLC clinics say they would recommend the experience to others. Coaches leave the clinic with a greater understanding of why they coach youth sports, of their vital role as ministers. They will learn new strategies in motivating young athletes, team-building tactics, effective ways to communicate with athletes, and new ideas for developing partnerships with parents.
