Coaching for Character Coach Education Program
Coaching for Character (C4C) is an innovative coach education program designed for public youth sports organizations and schools. Play Like A Champion Today™ works in conjunction with public or charter schools, recreation leagues, youth basketball leagues, baseball leagues, and youth football leagues to conduct clinics all over the country. Developed with the latest research on child development and sports psychology, the C4C program provides detailed, hands-on, practical education for all those involved with youth sports.
To make the program as effective and affordable as possible, PLC operates a train-the-trainer system of presenting coaches clinics and parent workshops. PLC Local Certified Trainers (LCTs) can be trained at the annual PLC Leadership Conference in June or through an on-site, train-the-trainer seminar. Either training will equip representatives with a mastery of the PLC coaching philosophy, the tools to implement a comprehensive "game plan" to elevate the culture of youth sport, a user-friendly Trainer's Manual, PLC coach and parent manuals, and the Play Like a Champion Today™ DVD including power point and video featuring successful coaches from the University of Notre Dame. This three-hour coaches clinic, focuses on the following principles:
- Coaches are essentially teachers and are responsible for contributing to their players’ character development.
- Coaches must be mindful they are participating in children’s play and play is meant to be fun!
- Coaches must be concerned with the complete development of all the children they are coaching: physical, mental, and moral.
- Coaches must be committed to nourish the values of fair play, equality, and respect for all.
